January 2nd, and my second blog of the year! Not a bad start if you ask me. I loved going through this engagement session and picking out some of my favorites for this blog. I was pumped when Alyssa and Torrey told me they wanted to do their engagements out at Lake Cushman! I love hiking out there - Lena Lake is a classic.
A couple weeks before their shoot, I took a few friends out to the lake with me and we drove all over location scouting. I consider location scouting - and the 100 or so miles of gas money I spent to get there and back - to be a part of my job. That might be one part of the gig you wouldn’t think about when you decide to hire a professional photographer. There is a LOT more to the job than the hour long photoshoot, and a lot of expenses on the photographers end that go unseen by the client. As do most photographers, I take my client experience so, so seriously. If that means taking a separate trip out to your location in order to find the perfect spots for you ahead of time, I do it happily!
As it turns out, Alyssa had a family friend who allowed us to use their property for their shoot. It was wonderful - no crowds! We had the entire beach to ourselves. They brought their two pups, which is ALWAYS encouraged over here at JBP. Alyssa and Torrey were naturals in front of the camera, and we laughed the entire time. They danced and walked along the beach, and I was just beside myself at the backdrop of Lake Cushman. I’m definitely hoping someone will take me out here again for a shoot in 2020!
